where we collect our thoughts.

Emmylou, Elvis Costello, Don Fleming, and Stephen Colbert sing “Goodnight Irene” on the Colbert Report at the end of a segment honoring the Alan Lomax Collection on March 8th, 2012. This song was made popular by Leadbelly as recorded by Lomax from the Angola Prison in Louisiana in July 1933.

MAY 2012

We did it! We raised 60K in 60 days and then some! Officially we are 117% funded. We are so excited about bringing this project to the next level. So far we have some exciting places we are going to be screening the film this fall and look forward to bringing a full tour schedule together in coming months. If you are interested in seeing it in a theater near you, let us know about it!

Anyway, we are back in the office and back in pre-production as believe it or not, we are going to be filming more additional content. We have to update the website as well as design some great t-shirts, which I am especially excited about! We get to start up working again with our designers, Robin Easter Design, who are based in Knoxville.

At the end of this month, I’ll be producing and directing the Livestream webcast for the AMA out here in LA as they are announcing the nominees for their awards show happening in September during a musical press conference at the Grammy Museum. The whole thing has got us thinking about the future of The Porchlight Sessions Live! I love directing live concert events so hopefully we can do more of that type of thing for the Bluegrass and Folk folks.

Chris and I will be headed to Nashville either before or after Bonnaroo and will be working with Hatch Show at that point too. Our time there will be spent filming remaining interviews as well as working with the International Bluegrass Music Museum. I don’t want to speak too soon about who all we will be filming, but do know that we’ve got some surprises up our sleeves!

More to be announced. Til then, - Anna

APRIL

Kickstarter has put the fire under us to be creating content…so we’ve been churning it out. Check out our vimeo site as we’ve got about 10 or so videos of never before seen content. Performances by Abigail Washburn, Alison Brown, Chris Pandolfi, Béla Fleck, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Ragweed Boys, Crooked Still, and more to come. Plenty more! Who knew we shot so much, right? And turns out, believe it or not, we are not going to be premiering at the Nashville Film Fest and also are going to continue filming. Geez. Right? If we make the Kickstarter effort, then we will have at least something to get ‘er done! The chapter we are looking to shoot includes some super fine folks. Its been fun thinking of all the people who can best tell the story of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and John Hartford….so yup, things are really starting to get exciting! We are in the 20-day countdown for our pledged $60K. We’ve got the French Big Cactus Country Radio that airs on BBC shouting out about us and Associations in Nevada coming in and Flavorpill! Things are really funny in the world of Bluegrass sometimes. Just to add to the excitement, we’re releasing the film poster. I won’t call this one “official” but its our first rendition at it.

Check out this crazy banjo!
